HOW THEY ARE

Lone Canary continues its quest to procure grapes which best express the characteristics of fragrance and flavor which only Yakima Valley and Columbia Valley fruit can show.

WHY THEY ARE

Lone Canary wines combine the wonderful expressiveness of Washington State grapes with the depth and elegance of wines made in an Old World style.  Because of this, Lone Canary offers five red varietals: two Italian, three French, reflective of different regional styles, as well as limited production specialties.

WHAT THEY ARE

2007 Barbera: The Barbera grape is traditionally grown in Northern Italy, and here in Washington at Milbrandt Vineyards in the Wahluke Slope. With more structure than previous vintages, this Barbera allowed for a little more oak influence, but in all honesty, the credit for this wine must go to the vines, themselves, and their graduation to the threshold of maturity where, if they were human, they will stay for years on end, refusing to grow older. And that won’t be bad… for them, or for us. The color is a deep almost purple garnet and in the nose it is elemental blackberry and sweet earth. On the palate, the berry notes develop into a delicious jamminess surrounded by a slight dust of minerality and sweet espresso crema. In the finish, there are satisfying notes of dried berry, chocolate and a hint of pixie dust.

Bird House Red
: An American style red blend that combines Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. In the nose, this wine shows scents of blackberry, prune, chocolate and coffee. On the palate, blackberry, blueberry, and black cherry mingled with hints of dark chocolate. It finishes with beautiful spice and smoky notes.

2005 DuBrul Vineyard Reserve: Blended to represent the yield from our two acres of the famous DuBrul Vineyard, this wine is 66% Merlot and 34% Cabernet Sauvignon. Its color is a very dark garnet. In the nose, the wine offers defined and pronounced aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant and prune with underpinnings of dark chocolate and sweet espresso. The palate nicely echoes the aromatics with bright blackcurrant and cherry leading into a mid palate of berry, anise and clove and finishes long and satisfyingly with notes of chocolate and dark roast coffee. The 2005 DuBrul Vineyard Reserve is a wine that already offers a great deal to like: its exuberant fruit and graceful palate and plush texture. Patient cellaring, though, will allow the deep complexity and expressiveness contained within this wine to evolve and show.

NEW!: 2007 Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc: This 2008 Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc offers rich aromatics of ripe honeydew, peach and pineapple with layers of honey and straw. The palate is plush and viscous, with complex flavors of baked apples and pears, along with notes of dried peach and apricot in the finish.

NEW!: 2006 Merlot: Bottled as 100% Merlot, in the nose it presents notes of black cherry, blackberry and dried plum with some enticing notes of black tea, licorice and earth. On the palate, there is much to offer in its lovely lush texture, gentle silky tannins and flavors of blackberry, pie cherry, dark chocolate and spice. A wine not only delicious but both inviting and mysterious at the same time, which as you know is more than can be said of the winemaker.

2008 Pinot Grigio: Aged entirely in stainless steel, this clean Pinot Grigio has just a splash of Viognier! Experience flavors of green apple and pear with a Meyer lemon finish!

NEW!: 2007 Pinot Noir: This is the first vintage-dated Pinot Noir grown in Spokane soil, and shows the march to maturity that these vines are making. This is a much more structured wine than its predecessor, showing depth and complexity normally associated with long-established vines. The wine was aged for a total of 12 months in new and 2-year- old French oak barrels to polish and accentuate the bright, candied berry nature of the fruit.

NEW!: 2005 Proprietors' Reserve: This 2005 Proprietors’ Reserve is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc and was aged in all new French oak barrels for an astonishing 36 months! When you taste it, I believe you see why… In the nose, this wine is substantial and mysterious: aromas of black berries, currants and dried plum slowly unwind, revealing behind them notes of allspice, dark chocolate and mint. On the palate, it presents confidently its array of complex, ripe flavors of blackcurrant, raisins, chocolate, liquorice, anise, earth and smoke. The finish spreads slowly across the palate to offer lingering interest as the flavors evolve and display: flavors of dried cherry, mocha, nutmeg, toast and fresh cracked white peppercorns.

2008 Sauvignon Blanc: In the nose, the 2008 Sauvignon Blanc presents aromas of pear, pineapple, dried grass, and honey. On the palate, it is soft yet bright with flavors of pear, melon, and lime; it finishes satisfyingly with hints of tropical fruit and lemongrass.

2007 Syrah: 100% Syrah grown on the Wahluke Slope. In the nose, it pairs blueberry and blackberry with sweet briar and cardamom. On the palate, it offers a plush mouthful of ripe plum and blueberry against a spicy candied note of clove and anise, finishing softly with dark coffee and dark chocolate.
